Eclipse – Commercial Vehicle Travel Restrictions
Applies to Highways South of Lewiston
The Idaho Transportation Department is putting the following travel restriction into place due to the Solar Eclipse which will occur on August 21st, 2017. This travel restriction will be on Idaho Interstate and State highways located south of Lewiston (South of US12 but not including US12).
Begins 4pm August 20, Ends Dawn August 22
Loads in excess of 10’ wide, 100’ long or 14’6” high have daylight only travel and may not travel after 4:00 pm on the day preceding the Eclipse (August 20th). Travel may be resumed at dawn on the day following the Eclipse (August 22nd). This travel restriction is being put into effect due to the anticipated increase in traffic for the Solar Eclipse that will occur on August 21st. This safety measure will assist with traffic flow and enhance safety of the industry and the traveling public.
Motor carriers not exceeding the dimensions stated above should anticipate significant congestion and delays on all state highways during this time frame. Motor Carriers please provide this information to your drivers, by copy of this letter or other means, to assure their awareness of the restrictions and possible delays.
